Insurance Journal Magazine recently published an article titled After the Storm: Disaster Plans and Backups a Must for Public Entities. In mid-February, Texas was faced with Winter Storm Uri, which caused many organizations to find alternative plans to restore their communities. Even when a company has an emergency plan, sometimes they are forced to use a Plan B.

Arnie Mascali, Esq. Founder and President at Procor Solutions was quoted saying, “Generally, what happens for a public entity is, if it has insurance coverage to a certain amount, that insurance would respond first. A public entity would first need indemnification or reimbursement from its insurance company for whatever is covered under its policy.”  The article stresses that public entities should be in close contact with their broker/agent when a disaster occurs to help ensure understanding of policy inclusions and coverage and the steps to take when responding.
